Unfortunately even in churches you need security. I know for both the college and youth group we use iPods to pump music into our sound systems. Yeah this might be the perfect answer but it’s better than nothing.

Ok, I’m sure you’ve seen things like this at the mall. The first thing you want to do is touch them. So can you imagine what it would be like if you had these hanging out in your youth room, maybe near a announcement board or information table? Now all it needs to do is respond to music!

del.icio.us

del.icio.us is a website. I know, it looks weird, no www, no .com but it really is a website. It’s using .us instead of .com, and a subdomain of del so there’s no need for www. So all you have to do is enter in the word delicious with some stratigicly placed dots and you’re in. del.icio.us is a web based bookmarking, or favorites program. You can organized all your bookmarks online and share them with others. You can even automatically post them back to your website with some of their widgets and codes.

Google Reader & RSS

If you’ve been wondering what RSS is all about listen up. RSS (or Really Simple Syndication) feeds are free content feeds from websites that contain article headlines, summaries and links back to full-text articles on the web. Most websites, especially ones with changing content, have RSS links that you can subscribe to. This will save you a lot of time from having to go to every website everyday to check on the newest stories. So now all you need is a RSS reader, or a feed reader. I am suggesting Google Reader for the following reasons:

  • You can just enter the main address of a website, like faithhacker.com, and if finds the feed for you.
  • It is web based so you can access it anywhere.
  • You can organize multiple feeds into different categories.
  • It supports video and other content.
  • You can access it on your cell phone at www.google.com/reader/m

Add-ons extend Firefox, letting you personalize your browsing experience. They can make a tiny tweak, or bring a whole new range of features. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Flashblock – Blocks all flash on webpages. Only loads if you click on it. Great for sites like MySpace that have unwelcome and risky ads.
  • Forecastfox – Weather in your lower info bar; current temp and conditions, 2 day forecast, hover over for radar.
  • del.icio.us Bookmarks – If you have a del.icio.us account you can post sites with one click.
  • Download Statusbar – Instead of a pop up with download status, you get a nice little progress bar in the bottom left of the status bar.
  • Google Browser Sync – Syncs your passwords, bookmarks, & more with Firefox on different computers.
  • StumbleUpon – tool bar that allows you to randomly find kewl websites with one click.
  • Tab Mix Plus – Tab manager for Firefox. Total custom controls.
